Irregular menstruation
Characteristics of abnormal menstruation
In general, when women enter reproductive age, they will have menstruation, which is a sign of readiness for conception and bloodline. However, in some cases, there is an abnormal menstruation, which may be caused by abnormalities in the body, such as an imbalance of female hormones or an incompleteness of the female reproductive system, resulting in the following abnormal menstruation characteristics:
- Excessive menstruation: More than 7 days or more, or changing sanitary pads very frequently every hour. On average, a woman's menstrual period will last about 3-7 days. If it is longer than that, there may be other causes, so you should consult a doctor to check for abnormalities in the female reproductive system.
- Irregular menstruation: The best characteristic of menstruation is that it should come continuously every month because it means that the reproductive system is complete and ready for conception. If menstruation is not continuous, such as menstruation that is several months apart in each cycle, it may be a sign of infertility and an incompleteness of the female hormones and reproductive system.
- Have severe menstrual cramps and deep pain in the vagina: Menstrual cramps are normal because there will be a secretion of hormones that cause the uterus to contract. But if menstrual cramps become more severe and there is pain in the vagina during sexual activity, it may be a dangerous sign indicating complications of the female reproductive system. Therefore, if you have severe menstrual cramps, you should consult a doctor immediately.
- Abnormal menstrual color: The color of menstrual blood can also indicate the normal characteristics of menstruation. A good color of menstrual blood should be bright red or dark red. However, other colors such as orange, gray or black may indicate a vaginal infection. Therefore, you should consult a doctor immediately if you find a color other than red or dark red.
Dangerous signs leading to various diseases
Abnormal menstrual blood may indicate signs of complications in the female reproductive system, such as
- Endometriosis or chocolate cysts: This is a condition in which the endometrium grows outside the uterine cavity or inserts into the uterine muscle wall, which will cause severe pain in the lower abdomen and pain inside the vagina during intercourse. You can also feel a lump in the lower abdomen.
- Uterine tumors: This is the growth of abnormal muscle cells in the uterus. The characteristics of the tumor that grows more than normal may be both normal and cancerous. A sign of having a uterine tumor is menstrual cramps along with signs of frequent urination.
What to do
If you find these abnormal symptoms, you should not be careless and leave it for a long time because it may cause more severe symptoms that are linked to dangerous diseases. Therefore, you should consult a doctor or specialist immediately to take care of your female reproductive system.
